AFTERCARE

healthy people heal faster! So if you’re run down, stressed or unwell the healing period could be extended.

SO eat them greens!! Here are some other tips to help promote healthy healing: get lots of sleep, drink plenty of water, avoid emotional stress, reduce alcohol and caffeine, reduce your nicotine intake (as nicotine inhibits oxygen circulation). EVERYONE HEALS AT DIFFERENT RATES, SO THE TIME FRAMES GIVEN BELOW AS GUIDELINES! DON’S STRESS IF YOU TAKE LONGER TO HEAL.

PIERCING

The aftercare of a new piercing is extremely important as piercings are susceptible to infection, to ensure your piercing heals you will need to follow the below care points.

a piercing is an intentionally created wound and you body is trying to heal around the foreign body which has been left in place (the jewellery). Because of this we need to reduce the risk of infection / enhance healing / minimise factors that will inhibit healing.

  • Always wash your hands before and after touching the new piercing

  • Clean your piercing with the saline as shown in your appointment

  • Showers are advised over baths, avoid soaking the piercing

  • When showering try to avoid getting suds in the piercing, before leaving the shower rinse with clean water

  • Do not remove the jewellery prematurely

  • Do not handle the jewellery unnecessarily

  • Do not go swimming for at least 6 weeks following the piercing

  • Avoid sleeping on the piercing for at least 8 weeks as this may irritate and prolong healing

  • Keep the piercing jewellery in until the piercing has healed and fully settled

  • You will have some natural secretions; this is a clear fluid that will dry as a white crust around the piercing site

  • Avoid alcohol, aspirin or any other anticoagulants in the 24 hours following the procedure

EAR:

  • Avoid wearing over earphones on ear cartilage piercings as this will cause pressure on the piercing site and wearing them for prolonged periods of time can cause the piercing to heal at an angle

  • Avoid wearing in earbuds on tragus piercings as this will cause pressure on the piercing site and wearing them for prolonged periods of time can cause the piercing to heal at an angle

Nose:

  • Avoid getting facewash / make up and other skin products in the piercing, rinse with clean water after washing the face

  • Nostril piercings are susceptible to bumps / piercing pimples, if these occur these usually happen around 4 weeks after the initial piercing, please contact me and I will advise how to treat this

  • Nostril piercings can take around 4-6 months to heal with Septum's taking around 6-8 weeks

NIPPLE:

  • Avoid wearing tight synthetic materials this will case sweat to build up creating bacteria, wear breathable cotton

  • For consistency of pressure on the piercing site, either wear / do not wear a bar consistently for 3 weeks following the piercing

  • Be careful when exercising or doing rigorous activities while the piercing is healing

  • Keep the piercing jewellery in until the piercing has fully healed and settled, which is usually around 6 months

YOU MAY expect to experience THE following WHILE HEALING : Slight bleeding / Swelling / Tenderness / Itching / Bruising / Soreness / Crusting - this is new skin cells starting to form / Some discoloration or oozing of a whitish-yellow fluid (not pus)

FAQ’S

PIERCINGS

can I use my own jewellery for a piercing? No sorry,  we can’t pierce you with your jewellery. Piercing jewellery is specifically designed to aid the healing process and differs from ready to wear jewelry (like butterfly back earrings). The jewellery needs to be of piercing quality and specific metals, which we know ours is.

Can I get pierced with the same piece of jewellery twice? We cannot pierce with the same jewellery twice, even if it’s from us. To ensure optimal healing, all piercings must be done with new sterile jewellery, once jewellery is worn it can get scratches and inclusions, a scratch in a piece of jewellery can harbour bacteria and cause friction or cuts which can lead to irritated and even infected piercings.

How long do you need to keep the piercing jewellery in after getting a new piercing? The times given are always a guide as everyone heals at different rates, they also vary for the placement of the piercing. In your appointment we will go through cleaning and aftercare instructions, with this you will receive a card that will give you your initial healing times and advised downsize times. Generally

  • Lobes: Initial healing 6-8weeks / switching jewellery minimum 12 weeks

  • Cartilage (conch / helix / tragus / scapha) : Initial healing 8-12weeks / downsizing jewellery minimum 12 weeks / full healing 6-9 months

  • Advanced cartilage (rook / daith): Initial healing 8-12weeks / jewellery change & full healing 6-9 months

  • Nostril: Initial healing 8-12weeks / full healing 4-6 months

  • Septum: Initial healing 6-8weeks / switching jewellery minimum 12 weeks

  • Nipple: healing 6-9 months

How long should I wait between piercings? We require 12 weeks between piercings to allow sufficient time to accommodate healing

How many piercings can I get at once? We allow for three piercings in one sitting per ear, this is to allow optimal healing. However If you are getting cartilage done then this reduces to two piercings on one ear only.

Do you offer a curation service? Every appointment allows sufficient time for you to come in and speak to one of our team to choose the piercing jewellery that best works with your anatomy for the chosen piercing. We can then take a photo of your ear and mock up how the new piercing will look and possibly plan in future piercings too!

Why do you not pierce children under the age of 10? The debate about piercing the ears of infants and young children has two principals’ elements, philosophical considerations, and practical aspects. These include cultural identity and ownership of the body. Cultural been what one cultural refers to as normal may not be standard behaviour in. Whereas the practical aspects a positioning in the center of a baby’s ear lobes can sometimes end up too low or close to the face when they are an adult. The risk of infection is higher when the piercee is unable to refrain from touching the area as they are too young or may not understand the instructions of lack the self-discipline. Children’s immunes systems are not fully mature so it essential that everything is done to be hygienically and safe as possible.

PIERCING TROUBLE SHOOTING /

PIERCING TROUBLE SHOOTING /

We pierce with jewellery that will accommodate the inflammation stage, so the bar length you are pierced with is always slightly longer. Your inflammation stage which is first stage of healing usually lasts around 3-12 weeks, once the swelling has subsided and healing is underway, you can swap your bar length for shorter one to ensure the jewellery doesn’t get caught and cause trauma, move throughout the ear risking pushing bacteria through the ear, heal at an angle or migrate, this will help the continuation of healing.

We use internally threaded labret jewellery, where the head screws into the bar, once downsized the jewellery should fit flush against the ear at either size.

If you’re not able to come back in to downsize, we sell different bar lengths online, generally the anatomy accommodates the below downsize lengths:
Helix: 5mm / 6.5mm
Conch: 5mm / 6.5mm
Scapha: 5mm
Tragus: 6.5mm
Forward Helix: 5mm
Nostril: 6.5mm

Not all piercings require a downsize, but it is advised to avoid any issues.
